Analysis of meaning in life as well-being determinant of Faculty of Education students

This diploma thesis is based on concepts of positive psychology and deals with the topic of well-being. The approaches of positive psychology and development of this psychological specialization as well as the concept of well-being are presented in the first part of the thesis. In addition to the Harvard approach to well-being, special attention is paid to the new theory of well-being, which was created by Martin Seligman and expended by Scott I. Donaldson and Stewart I. Donaldson. Specifically, this thesis focuses on well-being of a specific group, which is university students. Not only subjective well-being, but first of all meaning in life are analysed in focus on university students. Meaning in life is the main topic of this diploma thesis. The research part is based on questionnaire survey focused on the well-being of students of the Faculty of Education of Charles University, which took place at the turn of 2022 and 2023 as part of a big university research focused on the well-being of students (Kočí, 2023). The analysis of the obtained data shows a close connection between subjective well-being and the area of meaning in life. The meaningfulness of life in the elderly

The submitted thesis deals with the issue of the meaning in life in the elderly. The meaningfulness of life, which was as a deep human need listed among the evaluated items in the WHOQOL assessments, is considered to be an important salutogenic factor. The thesis briefly introduces logotherapy, a method focused on the revelation and renewal of the meaning in life and the orientation towards values. It also mentions the possibilities of logotherapeutic approach in the communication with seniors being in a difficult life situation. The theoretical part specifies the fundamental terms regarding the ageing, the elderly, the demographic evolution of the contemporary society, health and psychosocial aspects of ageing and the seniors' needs. Further, this part summarizes the theoretical knowledge about the issue of quality of life and its meaning, the methods of their examination and the results of research. The last chapter of the theoretical part summarizes the existing knowledge regarding the depression in the elderly. The course of the research is described in the empirical part of the thesis. Life meaning of adolescents in the context of their moral development

The aim of the dissertation is to give an insight into adolescents' meaning in life in the context of moral development, its constitutive elements and sources of meaning which include values, goals and tasks of life. The dissertation is divided into two parts - theoretical and empirical. The theoretical component consists of six chapters. In Chapter 1 the term 'meaning' is defined and there are some attempts to introduce it. The theoretical part includes a range of psychological conceptions, concepts and models illustrating the variety of views on meaning of human existence, sources of meaning and its ways of seeking and finding which lead to meaningful creation of life. The conclusion of the theoretical part is Chapter 5 dealing with adolescents' meaning in life. The special attention is paid to the periodization of stages of adolescent period in which moral, value and identity development is analysed, and the whole personality within the process of socialization is formed. Diagnostic methods which allow us to look into the measure of meaningfulness of life, moral attitudes, competence and preferences of moral reasoning both abroad and in the Czech territory are embodied in the theoretical part. Meaning of life and values orientation in the context of drug addiction

This bachelor thesis focuses on the issues of a life purpose and a value orientation. The research is based on patients, who are being treated for a drug addiction at the Červený Dvůr Psychiatric hospital. The first part of the thesis focuses on giving definition to the terms "life purpose" and "value orientation", primarily in the context of Victor Emanuel Frankl´s logotherapy and existential analysis. Further ahead, the definition of a drug addiction and the theory of addiction´s origin is discussed as well. The exploration part of the thesis presents the results of research, which was carried out at the Červený Dvůr Psychiatric hospital since November 2016 to March 2017. 33 (25 men, 8 women) respondents, who are being treated for drug addiction, participated in the research. The Logo-test, Existential scale and Value and purpose evaluating and ordering methods were used for collecting the data. The results show, that patients have issues mainly in the area of life values fulfilling. Further the research points out, that staying in the institution has a positive impact on decreasing an existential frustration and positively influencing the perception of meaningfulness of life. The research proved that experiencing meaningfulness and occurrence of existential frustration differs at patients that are being treated for the first time and at patients who are being treated repeatedly.

Value orientations and perceiving of meaning in life by Jehovah´s Witnesses

This thesis is concerned with the research of values, value orientations and perceiving meaning in life by members of the Jehovah´s Witnesses religious community. It´s goal is to identify, which values recognise Jehovah´s Witnesses and how do they perceive meaning in life. In theoretical part is characterized this religious community and described values, value orientations and meaning in life as a psychological and other social sciences phenomena. In empirical part are observed values and meaning in life of 4 research participants - Jehovah´s Witnesses. Research was realized in a qualitative design, using methods of Grounded Theory and using semi-structured interview as a technique of data collection. On the basis of data analysis are presented recognized values and perceiving meaning in life by Jehovah´s Witnesses.
